What is SET Therapy?

What is Structural Energetic Therapy?®

Structural Energetic Therapy (SET) is a form of full body therapeutic massage designed to rid the body of chronic pain, increase strength, and enhance overall injury-resistance.

Muscles and soft tissue that are stuck, shortened and tight tend to be more brittle and dry, and therefore prone to injury. When muscles are squeezed down they can’t hold as much water, like a sponge that has been wrung out. Insufficiently hydrated soft tissue tends to get sticky and brittle. When muscles and tissue stick to each other, they can’t move as well and this brittleness increases the opportunity for muscle tears and injury.

Nerves also need to be flexible and free, in this case, to send to send clear signals to the brain regarding muscle function. Tight, sticky muscles and surrounding tissue can pinch nerves, preventing them from sending strong signals. The result is pain and weakness in the muscles.

Tight, sticky muscles and tissue impact joints in the same way. Tight tissue pulls joints out of alignment, causing increased wear and tear, pain, and inflammation.

Through a unique combination of cranial/structural, soft tissue, and breath work techniques, SET addresses the area of pain first, and then brings the rest of the body into balance to support those changes. SET hydrates and gives flexibility to muscles and tissue, releases restrictions on nerves and aligns the joints. It releases pain, brings the whole body into better alignment and improves the health of the muscles, joints, nerves, and connective tissue, allowing everything to work at a higher level.
