A Users Guide for Anyone with a Respiratory System: The Oxygen Advantage

The Oxygen Advantage: The Simple, Scientifically Proven Breathing Techniques for a Healthier, Slimmer, Faster, and Fitter You is a guide on how to use breath exercises to relax the body and simulate high-altitude training. Patrick McKeown explains how breathing affects our bodies and makes a compelling case against over-breathing and mouth breathing. This book is effectively a users guide for anyone with a respiratory system. I learned how carbon dioxide (CO2) is actually an important mediator of how much oxygen our body tissues absorb from our blood stream and that having higher levels of CO2 is actually really good for the body. Before reading this book I thought CO2 was just a waste product. After reading The Oxygen Advantage, I started using its techniques to maximize the amount of this vitally important molecule in my own body. McKeown’s breath method instructions were so good, I found myself practicing them while listening (I get most of my reading done through audiobooks. Yes, it does count as reading). I listened to these instructions over and over while practicing the techniques until I internalized them (about 2 years ago) and still use many of them almost daily. I also tape my mouth shut at night now because of this book. This book is a must-read. It will change your life for the better.
